The Fulcrum 2:1 Two-to-One Spoke Ratio is a patented technology that increases the number of spokes in critical areas of a bicycle wheel to improve power transfer and reduce torsion: 

Power transfer
The extra spokes allow two spokes to perform the function of one, which improves power transfer and reduces energy loss. 
 
Spoke tension
The extra spokes help balance spoke tension between the drive and non-drive sides of the wheel. 
 
Fatigue life
The improved spoke tension and reduced torsion help extend the fatigue life of the rim, hub, and spokes. 

Slackening and torsion
The extra spokes help limit slackening and torsion in the wheel. 

The 2:1 Two-to-One Spoke Ratio was developed by Fulcrum engineers after observing the results of daily wheel tests. The tests showed that the forces on the spokes and sides of the wheels are different, and that the front and rear wheels have different requirements. For example, the front wheel needs to remain stable while braking, while the rear wheel needs to compensate for the chain side's force.
